Linode, now Akamai Cloud, offers hourly instances with simple pricing, managed databases, Kubernetes and a Marketplace. ArduMaker is a VPS with an app panel, email and MCP.
Quick summary
ArduMaker
- Who it is for: Freelancers, agencies and teams who want to publish apps, WordPress sites and client email from a panel, with an AI agent helping to run the server.
- Biggest strength: What you'd set up over SSH on a Linode instance comes from the panel, or your agent does it over MCP, with weekly backups included.
Linode (Akamai Cloud)
- Who it is for: Developers comfortable with Linux who want predictable instances backed by Akamai's network.
- Biggest strength: Simple pricing, good documentation and the option to add Akamai services such as CDN and security.
The main difference: Linode gives you a clean machine with clear pricing; you build the rest. ArduMaker gives you the machine with the app panel, email and an MCP for your agent.

Key differences
A clean instance vs a server with a panel
Linode delivers an instance with the distribution you choose and, optionally, a Marketplace app; from there, proxy, certificates, deploys and updates are yours. ArduMaker starts from the same root but adds a panel that deploys from GitHub, publishes domains with SSL, creates services and manages databases, n8n and WordPress.
The Akamai ecosystem
Since Linode became part of Akamai, its instances sit next to Akamai's CDN and security services, which help high-traffic sites. ArduMaker has no CDN of its own: it publishes domains with SSL and you can put the CDN of your choice in front.
Backups and email
On Linode, automatic backups are an optional service (from $2/month on the Nanode) and email goes to another provider. On ArduMaker the weekly backup is included (4 are kept) and mailboxes on your domain are created from the panel, billed per mailbox.
AI agents
Akamai publishes an official MCP server for Akamai Cloud which, according to its documentation, reads resources with a read-only token; to change anything, the agent uses the API or SSH. ArduMaker includes a remote MCP server with OAuth that also takes action: you approve access in the browser and limit which projects and VPSs the agent can touch.
Pricing and costs
Linode bills each instance hourly with a monthly cap and adds the backup service, managed databases, NodeBalancers, storage and traffic beyond what's included. The pricing is easy to read, but the bill grows piece by piece. On ArduMaker you pay a fixed price per plan with the panel, weekly backups and MCP included; email is billed per mailbox. On top of that is admin time, which on Linode is yours.
| Item | ArduMaker | Linode (Akamai Cloud) |
|---|---|---|
| Entry server | VPS from €5.00/month, fixed price per plan | Nanode 1 GB from $5/month |
| Backups | Weekly, included; the last 4 are kept | Optional backup service, from $2/month on the Nanode |
| Database | PostgreSQL, MySQL or Redis inside the VPS, no extra charge | Managed database as a separate product |
| Email on your domain | Mailboxes in the panel, billed monthly per mailbox | External email provider or your own server |

Real-world scenarios
An agency with several client WordPress sites
On ArduMaker: Each site is a native WordPress install with staging and backups, plus its domain, SSL and mailboxes in the same panel; each client can have its own project.
On Linode (Akamai Cloud): You launch an instance with the Marketplace WordPress app per site, or several sites on one hand-configured instance, and email goes to another provider.
A Python API with PostgreSQL
On ArduMaker: You connect the GitHub repo, install PostgreSQL from the panel and publish the domain with SSL; every push deploys.
On Linode (Akamai Cloud): You create the instance and a managed database, and build deploys with your CI, an app server, Nginx and Certbot.
A site with heavy global traffic
On ArduMaker: You publish the site with SSL on the VPS and, if you need edge caching, put an external CDN in front.
On Linode (Akamai Cloud): You combine the instance with Akamai's CDN and security services.
An agent that reads logs and restarts services
On ArduMaker: You connect your agent to https://mcp.ardumaker.com/mcp; it reads logs, restarts services or deploys with permissions you approve, and its actions are logged.
On Linode (Akamai Cloud): You give the agent an API token or an SSH key and define what it can do yourself; the official Akamai Cloud MCP is for lookups, not for operating.
When Linode (Akamai Cloud) is the better fit
- You want instances with simple pricing and hourly billing.
- You need managed Kubernetes (LKE) or managed databases separate from the server.
- You want to add Akamai's CDN and security from the same provider.
- You need a full VM with another distribution or your own kernel.
- You automate with an API, a CLI or Terraform.
When ArduMaker is the better fit
- You want GitHub deploys with a domain and SSL without configuring the server by hand.
- You manage client WordPress sites and email and want to do it from one panel.
- Your AI agent should run the server with OAuth, human approval and scoped permissions.
- You need n8n with workers, PostgreSQL or Redis in one click.
- You want weekly backups included without buying a separate service.
How to migrate from Linode (Akamai Cloud) to ArduMaker
Moving from a Linode instance to ArduMaker means reinstalling your apps on a new VPS, bringing your data and switching DNS. Use Linode's backup service as a safety net while you migrate.
- Inventory: List apps, services, containers, cron jobs, managed databases, volumes, NodeBalancers and DNS Manager records.
- Backup first: Take a manual backup of the instance on Linode before you start.
- Create the VPS: Create a VPS on ArduMaker with enough RAM and disk for your apps and databases.
- Apps and WordPress: Connect your GitHub repos, bring your Compose files and use the panel's WordPress migration for each site.
- Data: Export databases with pg_dump or mysqldump, import them on the VPS and copy files with rsync.
- DNS, SSL and email: Point the A records from DNS Manager or move the zone to ArduMaker. SSL is issued when you publish. If you move email, create the mailboxes and update MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC.
- Verify and delete: Test every site and app, check logs and take a manual backup on ArduMaker. Then delete the Linode instance: it's billed while it exists.
Frequently asked questions
Are Linode and Akamai Cloud the same thing?
Yes: Akamai acquired Linode and its compute services are now presented as Akamai Cloud, although the Linode brand and domain are still in use.
How much is a Linode Nanode?
The 1 GB Nanode costs $5 a month ($0.0075 an hour), with 1 vCPU, 25 GB of storage and 1 TB of transfer. The backup service (from $2 a month on this plan), managed databases and load balancers are billed separately.
Does Linode have an MCP server?
Akamai publishes an official MCP server for Akamai Cloud (akamai-cloud-mcp) which, according to its documentation, uses a read-only token to look up resources. To create or change resources, the agent uses the API, the CLI or Terraform. ArduMaker includes a remote MCP server with OAuth and human approval that also takes actions.
Can I send email from a Linode instance?
On new accounts, SMTP ports 25, 465 and 587 are restricted by default; you can ask support to lift the restriction by explaining your use case. On ArduMaker you get mailboxes on your domain, webmail and IMAP/SMTP from the panel.
Does Linode give free credit to try it?
Akamai offers $100 of credit to new customers who add a payment method, valid for 60 days and with exclusions such as GPUs. We found no permanent free plan. On ArduMaker, projects, scheduling, recordings, checker, MCP and DNS are free; the VPS is paid.
Is an ArduMaker VPS like a Linode instance?
Both give you root over SSH, but a Linode instance is a virtual machine and an ArduMaker VPS is an isolated Ubuntu in a system container. For apps, Docker and databases it works the same; for another distribution or your own kernel, Linode is the better fit.
