Migrating Base44 to your own hosting: exported code and missing backend

How to exit Base44: what is exported, what happens with authentication, functions, storage, and APIs, and how to budget for refactoring.

The frontend is not the entire application

Base44 offers a creation experience with backend, authentication, and managed integrations. This makes it easy to create an MVP. But moving to another infrastructure can be a broader task than exporting components: the provider's services may still be necessary to query data or execute workflows.

First assess portability, do not promise automatic migration

The export mechanism and its limits depend on the functions used and the plan. Review the documentation, real exports, and SDK services. If the code contains calls to a proprietary API, document the routes and permissions before thinking about replacing it. You can decide to temporarily keep that backend while migrating the frontend; or rebuild it completely with your own API. Both paths have different cost and maintenance implications.

Example: Tasks and commissions CRM

A company generated in Base44 a panel with clients, tasks, roles, and alerts. You download the interface and serve it on Nginx: the screen opens, but creating a task fails because it continues calling previous functions. Instead of hiding the error, you create a feature matrix, identify the entities, and migrate or rewrite each endpoint with tests. Before cutting over, you compare counts and test that a salesperson does not see other people's commissions.

Steps to make it a portable product

1. Confirm which exports are admissible and which plan the project uses. 2. Inventory frontend, data, authentication, SDK, files, and functions. 3. Estimate which services are kept and which require replacement. 4. Export data, prepare destination backend, and validate migrations. 5. Test operations and permissions by role in staging. 6. Configure the server and change traffic only after the checklist.

Comparison of options

Keeping Base44 as a managed platform can be perfectly reasonable. Self-hosting offers greater autonomy over the portable code and rebuilt services, but adds maintenance. The audit determines whether the benefit compensates the effort.

Frequently asked questions

### Does a ZIP contain my users and files? Do not assume that: check what data comes out and by what mechanism. ### Can I avoid redoing the whole app? Frequently yes, if the frontend is portable and only dependent services are replaced. ### Is it a one-afternoon migration? It depends on logic, integrations, data, and authentication; it may require refactoring. ### How to estimate budget? Separate audit, export, backend, data, testing, and operations.

Where ArduMaker fits

The VPS or ArduMaker services can be the destination for exported code if the architecture allows it, along with domain, HTTPS, and operational processes. But migrating the app does not automatically fix its bugs, permissions, or data design. At ardumaker.com/lovable (coming soon) the specialized service for migrating AI-generated code and converting it into a deployed application with technical review will be presented. The page is not yet created: for current information check ArduMaker.

Review: October 2026. Each platform and its export modalities change. Check official sources and work on staging with test data.
