Emails, cron tasks and automations: completing an app built with AI
Published on 2026-10-27 by frfrand
How to turn a demo into a functional service using transactional email, queues, cron, webhooks and n8n with retries.

A reservation doesn't end when 'confirmed' appears
An application can register an order and fail at the email, invoice, reminder, or calendar sync. If those tasks depend on keeping a tab open, there is still missing infrastructure. The processes that happen after the click are part of the product.
Split the main flow of slow jobs
Save the business result with integrity first; then execute sending and syncing tasks via a queue or scheduler according to volume. For transactional email, configure the domain and its appropriate authentication records such as SPF and DKIM, plus templates, bounce handling, and SMTP/API secrets. An n8n workflow can help orchestrate integrations, but it also needs webhook authentication, limits, and retries.
Example: swimming academy
A student enrolls, their spot is registered, and an email task is created. The SMTP provider fails temporarily. Instead of deleting the enrollment or charging a second time, the confirmed enrollment is kept and the email is retried with a unique identifier. If there are several attempts, the student should not receive five new reservations. An operations panel shows pending and failed sends without revealing passwords.
Deployment steps
1. Identify post-HTTP tasks: emails, PDFs, calendar, billing. 2. Decide whether cron is enough or you need a queue with workers. 3. Configure email provider, domain, and secrets. 4. Add idempotency, retries with backoff, and status logging. 5. Run workers as persistent supervised services. 6. Test disconnection, restarts, bounces, and recovery of a pending task.
Difference between cron and a queue
Cron runs jobs at defined times; a queue handles event-driven tasks, with retries and concurrency control depending on the technology. You don't need n8n for everything: choose the simplest solution that meets product guarantees.
Frequently asked questions
### Can I send emails from the browser? Not with private secrets; centralize sensitive sends on the server. ### Is cron suitable for thousands of events per minute? It may not be the right tool; evaluate a queue and workers. ### Does n8n replace a secure backend? No: it integrates processes, but authorization and business rules must be protected. ### What do I do if email fails after charging? Register pending task and retry without duplicating the charge.

What about ArduMaker?
This work fits the idea of a service that reviews AI-generated code, implements what is necessary, and takes it to operable infrastructure. The future page ardumaker.com/lovable will present this migration and deployment modality. The page does not exist yet, so it must not be announced as an automatic service already available. For the products that exist today you can visit ardumaker.com. The real scope is determined with an audit: permissions, data, integrations, and maintenance.
Editorial review: October 2026. Official references prevail over generic examples; make a backup and staging tests before any intervention in production.
